Entrepreneurs have been informed about methods of environmental pollution relief

The meeting “Green Transition and Trade Facilitation” of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova took place. During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the Environment Agency and the State Tax Service informed the business sector about the new legislative amendments to the Law No. 1540/1998 on payment for environmental pollution.

Thus, entrepreneurs learned more details about reporting to the State Tax Service on the quantities of packaging waste collected and recovered for exemption from the payment for environmental pollution. During the same meeting the challenges of implementing the principles of Extended Producer.

Responsibility (EPR) in the Republic of Moldova were also discussed. Practical guidelines for economic agents to ensure legal compliance on waste management, registration and reporting in the Automated Information System “Waste Management” (SIA MD) were also presented. Present at the event Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov, mentioned that the application of EPR by entrepreneurs is an important thing, both for today’s generation and for those to come.

Natural resources must be carefully harnessed so that the environment is protected, she said. In 2023, in order to encourage economic agents to implement EPR in Moldova, the Ministry of Environment came up with a new draft law that brings clarity between payments made for environmental pollution and payments paid under collective EPR schemes, the members of which are importers and producers who place waste-generating products on the market.

The subject of EPR was brought to the Economic Council platform by the European Business Association in Moldova. A series of meetings followed in which problems and solutions to these issues were discussed. For a better understanding of the regulatory framework in this area, further meetings are to be organised on the platform of the Ministry of Environment with the involvement of all stakeholders.
