ECONOMIC COUNCIL TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE RM
10 June 2024 – The programme will facilitate the transition to a circular economy, where waste is transformed into raw materials and reintroduced into the economic cycle, according to a press release from the Ministry of Environment. The programme encompasses a wide range of measures, including:
The programme will encourage investment in the green economy, stimulate innovation and start-ups towards green practices, create more job opportunities in the green economy, optimise consumption of natural resources and reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
The Green and Circular Economy Promotion Program 2024-2028 will help reduce carbon emissions by encouraging businesses to adopt green practices, thus promoting the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and the implementation of circular economy principles for waste reduction and reuse of resources. The estimated cost of the programme is in excess of 200 million lei, with 100 million lei to be provided from the state budget and a further 100 million lei from other sources.
The primary planned measures include the classification of green economic activities and the introduction of green competencies in public administrations. It is also worth noting that the views of key stakeholders were sought during the development of the programme, including through the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. Following the working and public consultation meetings held to develop the programme, proposals were received from approximately 15 institutions. All of these were taken into account, adjusted and included in the draft programme.
At the same time, the authors of the Program have included among the specific objectives of the Program Improving the continuous dialogue between key actors which will be achieved also through the platform of the Economic Council at the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, which is a central forum for discussion and collaboration, facilitating the implementation of programs and actions that provide financial support and incentives for the adoption of new business models and increased investment in the green economy.
The Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova will, according to the Program, become a partner in Creating and maintaining an online database on green and circular economy projects and programs implemented or in the process of implementation by various key actors.
The implementation of the Green and Circular Economy Promotion Program 2024-2028 will facilitate economic growth by promoting environmentally friendly conditions and practices, which will lead to the improvement of the quality of life of citizens by ensuring a clean, sustainable and healthy environment.
