In Moldova, all information on healthcare and medicine will be collected in a single database

20 July 2021 – The country’s authorities intend to put things in order in numerous medical information systems. During the meeting of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister, representatives of the Ministry of Health said that the possibility of combining all health systems into a single database is being discussed both at the national level and with external donors.

Today the country has 40 electronic medical registers and 14 medical information systems. They are administered by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the National Social Insurance Fund, the National Public Health Agency, the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices and other institutions.

However, all these systems and registers are incompatible and mutual access of specialized institutions to them is not ensured. Representatives of business associations attending the meeting noted the need to develop the e-Sanatate strategy. This will allow defining a clear vision of the needs of transformations through the digitization of the health care system in Moldova, as well as the timing of their implementation.

Among the priorities was the development of an “electronic patient file” – the concept of a centralized electronic collection of any information about the interaction of a citizen with the health sector. Creating a digital profile for each patient will make it possible to record any interaction of a citizen with the health care system, have complete information about his/her health, and exchange data between medical institutions.

The Economic Council to the Prime Minister notes that representatives of the business community, government and donor organizations have supported the idea of developing an e-Sanatate strategy. On this issue, broad discussions will be organized in order to determine the main parameters of the strategy and identify financial resources for its implementation.
