The results of the survey “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the activity of Moldovan companies”

14 August 2020 – The results of the survey “Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the activity of Moldovan companies”, conducted by the American Chamber of Commerce of Moldova were presented today at the online meeting of members of the Economic Council with the participation of the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure.

The survey was conducted between July 3 and 18, 2020, based on information presented by 205 companies in the ICT sector, HoReCa, tourism, light industry, agriculture, transport, education, etc. The main objective of the study is to provide up-to-date information on the impact of COVID-19 virus on the business climate in Moldova.

According to the results of the survey on the evolution of revenues in the emergency period compared to 2019, only 13% of all respondents felt a positive dynamic or a similar level of revenue compared to last year. Regarding the factors that currently negatively affect the activity of companies 77% of respondents were totally or significantly impacted by the decrease in demand for products and services on the domestic market, respectively 56% of the difficulties encountered by their business partners, expressed by delays in payment invoices issued.

Among the measures implemented by companies in order to mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic are: creating export opportunities, accessing intra-group loans, creating new business lines, reducing the operating schedule, postponing current investments, etc.

The data from this survey will be used in the elaboration of the COVID Matrix on which the Economic Council is working.
