ECONOMIC COUNCIL TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE RM
June 4, 2019 – 18 months ago, Law No. 279/2017 on consumer information on food was approved. The document provides for new product labeling rules, which, according to ANSA, many businesses do not respect.
Some production and trade operators admit: the lack of food markings in the state language, or the incorrect translation of it. In the state language, are not indicated all the ingredients of the product, although they are described in the foreign language. Incorrectly is indicated on the label the net mass of the product or are used illegal standard signs.
In turn, the producers’ representatives say that despite the new law requirements, some product information cannot be presented to the consumer. Representatives of the associative sector have pointed out that the state must provide the necessary infrastructure to enable the economic agent to comply with the new legal provisions.
As a result of the meeting, all the complaints of the business community on this subject will be collected, and an Action Plan will be developed to overcome the problems faced by economic agents in the implementation of Law 279/2017.
The Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, funded by the UK Government’s Good Governance Fund.
