The Economic Council to the Prime Minister will also exercise the functions of the Advisory Council for small and medium enterprises

August 21, 2019 – A decision in this regard was taken at today’s Executive meeting, where the Regulation on the organization and functioning of the Economic Council was amended.

According to the document, to exercise of the functions of the Advisory Council for Small and Medium Enterprises within the Economic Council will be created a new Working Group headed by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure.

Based on the additional mission, the duties of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister will also include identifying key issues, concerns and needs of small and medium enterprises in Moldova; presenting to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure the opinion of the business community on the problems and interests of SMEs; debating and submitting proposals for improving the regulatory framework that have impact on the establishment and development of small and medium enterprises.

In order to ensure maximum efficiency in carrying out the expertise in the field of SMEs, the Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister will request with the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure the support of foreign donors in order to perform local and international expertise in this field.

Since 2017, the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova also exercises the functions of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation.

Thus, the Secretariat of the Economic Council will ensure the organizational activities of three platforms – the Economic Council to the Prime Minister, the National Committee for Trade Facilitation and the Advisory Council for small and medium enterprises.

The Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, funded by the UK Government’s Good Governance Fund, and the World Bank Group project “Investment Climate Reform”, funded by Sweden.

Through the changes made today by the Government, was established the management of the Council, the Prime Minister being the Head of the Council, and the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure – Vice-President of the Council.

The Economic Council to the Prime Minister has the mission to facilitate the dialogue between the representatives of the business community and the policy-makers in order to develop a favourable socio-economic climate and a non-discriminatory, transparent and investment-friendly business environment.
